STATE OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION, MINING AND SAFETY
Department of Natural Resources
7373 Sherman St., Room 275
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phone: (303) 86fr3567
FAX: (303) 832706
November 7, 2006
Mr. James Mattem
Trapper Mining, Inc.
P.O. BOX 187
Craig, CO 81626
Re: Trapper Mine, C-81-O10, Third Quarter 2006 Sediment Pond Inspection Reports
Dear Mr. Mattem:
COLORADO
DIVISION OF
RECLAMATION
MINING
- &-
SAFETY
Bill Owens
Governor
Russell George
Executive Director
Ronald W. Cattany
Division Direcor
Natural Resource Trustee
The Division has reviewed Trapper Mining Inc.'s Third Quarter 2006 Sediment Pond Inspection reports.
Trapper Mining Inc.'s third quarter 2006 sediment pond reports were received by the Division on October
2, 2006. Timely submittal of these reports is in compliance with Rule 4.05.9(17). Sediment pond
inspections were conducted by TMI on September 19, 25, 26, and 27, 2006.
The mine site experienced a greater than 100-yeaz storm event on September 15, 2006. On September 16,
2006, TMI measured 2.34" of precipitation had fallen at lower elevations of the mine site. All sediment
ponds functioned appropriately. Some scouring of drainage ways occurred but all ponds held up and did
not experience failure during or following the storm event. TMI noted which ponds needed maintenance
following the storm.
Only two ponds, Middle Flume No. 1, East Middle Flume No. 1, were reported to be discharging at the
NPDES point at the time of inspection. The dischazge was reported as a trickle or less than 1 cfs. Minor
maintenance items have been identified by the operator. Four sediment ponds require maintenance;
Johnson No. 6, East Pyeatt No. 1, East Pyeatt No. 2 and East Pyeatt No. 3. Two ponds require
identification signs to be replaced. TMI plans to seed the Deal gulch pond area in October.
Protection Specialist
C:/jhb/C81010/Sediment Pond Inspection/2006/3rd q 2006.doc
Cc: Dan Hernandez, DMG
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines
