Cox
RE: Powderhorn's 1983 Ground Water Inflow Study
Powderhorn Coal Company has submitted their first annual inflow study as
required under stipulation No. 3 to their permit. This study adequately
addresses the requirements of this stipulation.
The only minor problem noted with the report, was in the table titled
"Powderhorn Coal Company Roadside Mine (1983) Ground Water Inflow -Water
Balance". The column on mine water outflows lumps water consumed (Raw Coal
2.5% by wt., ventilation current, and wash plant consumption) and mine
discharges (Discharge Pt. 001 and Discharge Pt. 002). These two categories of
mine outflows should be handled separately in future reports, since water
consumed is lost from the hydrologic system and water discharged is returned
to the system.
With the exception of this minor problem, the inflow study is well done.
/th
cc: Brian Munson
Candace Thompson
Doc.
