The following
narrative may help you understand what we know to date.
From Pre 1976 to 1984 Dotsero Brick was owned and operated by
Mr. George Morrison. The mine has been operated for 40 plus
years, the material being used as road sanding material and base
material for making building block. Mr. Morrison appears to have
filed Division of Mines reports for 1975 thru 1980 but our records
donot indicate if a MLRB permit was obtained. When Mr. Morrison
sold the Dotsero Block, Inc. to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Whitman in
1984 they thought everything was in order and have continued to
mine the material used for their block operation. Until February,
1987 they were not aware that anything was amiss nor did they know
what a mining permit was or that a mining permit was needed. The
Whitmans were under the impression when they purchased the operation
that it was in order and are just as surprised as you are that the
pit was not permitted. They donot understand now how this could
have gone unnoticed for so long without someone finding it.
