Box 1567
Canon City, Colorado 81212
RE: Cherokee Mine - Our File Number 77-325
Siloam Mine - Our File Number 77-326
Dear Ms. Silango:
~~ On December 31, 1981, our Division received a check from you for 5200.00
for four years in back annual fees for each of the above captioned
operations. Therefore, enclosed please find receipts for each of these
checks.
k'o ur annual reports for these operations were also received by our
Division, and I reviewed them. I find the reports to be generally
satisfactory but do have two brief comments. First, when you submit
your annual reports next year, it would be vez~y helpful to our Division
if you included a map that illustrated the progress of mining and
reclamation on these sites. Second, as concerns the Siloam Mine, the
30,000 square feet of area that have been backfilled and topsoi.led should
~ be planted with the reclamation seed mixture given in the permit. This
mixture is 40e Blue grama, 20% legumes and 40o Wheatgrass species.
Often natural revegetation consists for the most part of annual weeds
such as Russian thistle and fireweed, and these do not provide continuing
protection of the land from wind and water erosion and, in fact, may .
need to be controlled. Such concurrent reclamation is required by our
Rules and Regulations and will expedite the process of final site reclamation
and bond release.
RiC HARP p, TMn~. r,w
