The field parameters are as follows:
Depth to Water: 268.54' (265.84 in July; 262.95 in June)
Temp. 61.3
Cond. 5,880 (5,440 in July)
pH 9.3
On the way to the warehouse, we were the Firs[ on the scene of the car fire on the north side of the highway. We stopped
and I emptied my personal fire extinguisher and the one on the 6-wheeler to keep the flames subdued until Mary (my wife)
could get to the mine office and call 911. The woman was able to remove her few things from the car. The extiquishers
kept the flames down, but within minutes after the extinguishers were empty, it was evident that she was going to lose the
car.
[ returned the 6-wheeler to the bay and left a note and the empty extinguishers at the desk. There wasn't anyone there to
verbally notify. Just wanted to make sure that someone would know why it was empty and that one of the 6-wheelers did
not have an extingquisher.
After that, we went to the outflow on the southwest side of the bridge in Somerset as you requested. In my opinion, it is
not oil (petroleum) related. The water is very dark brown, but the darkest part flows along the bottom of the small channel
{does not float) and empties into the North Fork. There are some small patches of shiny film on the water in [he area with
vegetation, but I don't think they are oil. They are very similar to the water standing below the flume in Lick Creek and
are no[ unusual in similar situations. The outflow doesn't look very good, but it probably is not as bad as if looks.
The measured field parameters are as follows:
Temp. 66.1
Cond. 5,270
pH 8.01
Ron Hanna arrived at the outflow at about the same time. He measures flow and samples the outflow for Old Bear Coal
Co. on a weekly interval for field parameters, plus analytical data on a monthly or quarterly basis. Ron also does not
believe that there is any oil or petroleum contamination at this location.
According to your request, we will plan to sample this outflow next month when we do the full sample round [o determine
if there are other constituents of concern.
Sincerely,
George Vandersluis
*********Email Disclaimer***********
The information contained in this a-mail, and in any accompanying documents, may constitute
confidential and/or legally privileged information.
