The
analytical results presented herein are consistent with previously reported data.
A summary of the 1998 precipitation data for the site, with a comparison to the monthly and
annual values for 1995 through 1997, is also enclosed. As you are aware, above normal rainfall
was experienced at the Cresson Project during late July and August. In fact, a total of 16.03 inches
of rainfall were received during these two months. The average precipitation received in July and
August of 1995, ]996, and 1997 was 6.51 inches. The most intense rainfall occurred between July
24 and August 9, 1998. During a 24-hour period on July 24 and July 25, measured precipitation
totaled 3.4 inches. This is only slightly below the 100-year, 24-hour precipitation event for this
area of 3.5 inches and substantially in excess of the 10-year, 24- hour event. CC&V also recorded
about 2.0 inches of precipitation during a one hour period on July 28, 1998. The heavy rainfall
received in July and August resulted in increased flows at many monitoring locations at the
Cresson Project during August, September, and October 1998, However, the valley leach facility
continued to function as designed and constructed.
Please do not hesitate to contact me at 7] 9-689-4041, if you have any questions or comments.
Sincerely,
Scott A. Lewis
Manager, Environmental Affairs
