Carbon Junction Mine CDPS Permit Renewal
Permit No. COG850042
Dear WQCD:
Enclosed please find the renewal application for the Oakridge Energy Carbon Junction
Mine CDPS permit that expires June 30, 2007. Based on discussions with Mr. Matt
Czahor of your office, I have modified the SWMP for the mine, and appended that
modification to the application.
Since the last renewal of the CDPS permit, the mine has undergone final reclamation
(completed in August 2006), with backfilling and grading, re-topsoiling, mulching, and
revegetation completed on all areas except the functioning sediment control system and
retained roads. There is no longer a process water component to the mining operation
The scope of potemial pollutants at the mine is minor, from stormwater runoff only,
consisting of sediment and those ions liberated by exposure to moisture and/or the
atmosphere during reclamation.
The mine is currently in the CDMRS (formerly CDMG) extended liability period, with
the only additional reclamation activities anticipated being, maintenance of the
reclamation (i.e. weed control, maintenance of the sediment control system), and
ultimately removal of the sediment control system (anticipated to take place in 2007).
Final reclamation bond release is anticipated in 2007 or 2008.
