Stewart <br />RE: GOLD HILL MILL -Gold Hill, CO <br />THIRD-QUARTER 1998 <br />COMPLIANCE SURFACE & GROUND WATER MONITORING <br />Dear Ms. Stewart: <br />November 10, 1998 <br />This letter report documents the field activities conducted by McCulley, Frick & Gilman, Inc. <br />(MFG) in connection with the third-quarter groundwater monitoring at the Gold Hill Mill project site (Site) <br />near Gold Hill, Colorado. These monitoring activities are in fulfillment of requirements for quanerly <br />compliance monitoring of groundwater and surface water at the Gold Hill Mill, as required by the Colorado <br />Division of Minerals and Geology. Monitoring activities were performed in accordance with MFG <br />Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS), adapted as necessary to accommodate as-encountered field <br />conditions. <br />THIRD-QUARTER GROUNDWATER SAMPLING <br />Groundwater sampling activities were conducted at the Site by MFG personnel on September 30, <br />1998. Groundwater samples were collected from four monitoring wells (Well I/1, Well 112, Well 113, and <br />Well 114). Additional groundwater samples were taken from the Hazel A adit and the fresh water holding <br />tank located inside the mill building. The fresh water holding tank is fed by groundwater pumped from the <br />Wynona mine and therefore represents the Wynona groundwater sample. Respective sampling locations <br />are shown on Figure 1. <br />Initial water levels for each well were measured to the nearest 0.01 foot from the top of [he well <br />casing (TOC) using a Solinst electronic water level meter, prior [o commencing the sampling procedures. <br />The water level probe was decontaminated, at the beginning of [he sampling event and prior to sampling <br />each subsequent monitoring well, by washing [he probe with anon-phosphate detergent and distilled water <br />solution and rinsing twice with distilled water. Water level data obtained during the third-quarter is <br />presented in Table 1, attached. <br />After measuring the water level in each well, the respective wells were sampled by lowering a <br />dedicated polyethylene bailer, suspended by nylon rope, into [he well.
