LLC. Elk Creek Mine. CDMG Permit C-1981-022
Dear Mr. Burnell:
Recently, we discussed the need to seal the B-6 monitoring well. As the Division is aware, the
B-6 well has been used to monitor water levels, or lack thereof, in the closed Somerset Mine B
seam workings. Recent monitoring of the well has indicated a complete lack of water in these
old mine workings.
The development of the D seam Elk Creek Mine entries will require that the B-6 well string be
intercepted by the continuous miner section. To avoid an underground connection with the B
seam mine atmosphere through an open borehole casing, the well first needs to be sealed.
On October 19, 2004 the bottom of the borehole was plugged and the entire well string sealed
with concrete to the surface.
Please contact me at 970-929-5806 if you have any questions concerning this issue.
Sincerely,
~ ~. ~'~
7 es A.
