To date a request for more information concerning compaction
requirements for the residential areas in A, E and F and a response to the Preliminary Adequacy Review
has not been forwarded to this Office. Given the current switch in personnel at Elam /Ephemeral this is
understandable but is causing some delay in the application process. DMG staff has some further
questions that must be answered in addition to those already presented to Elam /Ephemeral in order to
accurately calculate the cost for reclamation. Please respond to the following questions:
1) A review of the amount of overburden available on site indicates that there may not be enough to
backfill and compact the areas designated as A, E and F along with the other areas. Reclamation Map 6-
6 shows varying depths of overburden and it is difficult to ascertain exact volumes. Please suonly a
detailed soil balance sheet showine that there is enou>?h overburden to do all the reouired reclamation
within the permitted azea.
2) It is assumed that temporary site berms will be constructed of stripped topsoil and overburden. 1n
Area B no such berms are noted. Where will the overburden and topsoil be stored from this area?
3) The Mining Plan states that mining will begin in either Area A or B depending on "Mazket
Demands". In order to calculate the bond a firm commitment to a starting_Roint needs to be identified.
Concurrently, the sequence of mining needs to be identified.
If you need additional information, please contact me at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand
Junction Field Office, 101 S. 3rd St., Suite 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, telephone no.
970.241.1117.
Sincerely
~_..
G.
