OF MINERALS
REa-Sedimera~ Spill at Disc:urye Point 005, Permit No. CO-0000221
Dear Ms. Lenkey,
Per our conversation today, this letter serves to notify your
Division that a sediment spill occurred at Point 005 during the
evening of August 1. At that time, this sediment pond was being
dredged out with a backhoe that was loading the sediment into
scrapers. During this process, about one cubic yard of sediment
spilled from the loading area and into the discharge channel. The
pond was not discharging at the time of the spill. I notified our
operations people when I found out about this today, informing them
to avoid any more of this type of spillage, and requesting that the
sediment be removed from the drainage channel. I was told that the
clean up will begin today.
Sincerely,
~""`"'"'
Dennis Jon s
Hydrologist I
cc: Mike Boulay (CDMG)
Seneca Coal Company P.O.
