Coal Mine,
You previously requested inactivation in 1996. At that time, the Division denied your request. We are
reevaluating this permit based on your recent letter and current and expected conditions at the mine site.
Mining has ceased at this facility and reclamationlrevegetation is occurring under the direction of the
Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology. We understand that there is little runoff at this site and that
runoff razely reaches the sedimentation pond. ]t appears that the possibility of dischazge from this site's pond
is remote. We have wrresponded with a Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology (CDMG) representative
who concurs that it is unlikely that dischazge could occur from this site.
We will allow the permit certification number COG-850029 for this facility to expire on June 30, 1997.
Please be aware that if conditions at the site change in the future to alter the need for a CDPS permit, the
Division may take appropriate action.
Please feel free to contact me at (303) 692-3605 if you have questions.
Sincerely,
ion ubic
Environmental Protection Specialist
Permits and Enforcement Section
WATER QUALITY CONTROL DIVISION
sc: Darlene Casey, Permits and Fnfomemenl Section, WQCD
Dwain Watson, Technical Services Unit, WQCD
David Berry, CDMG
Technical Enforcement Program, (9ENF-T), EPA
Gunniwn County Hulth Depanmenl
