.,
TRAPPER MINING INC.
III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
October 23, 1991
CERTIFIED #P782939299
Mr. Kent Gorham
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division
215 Centennial Bldg.
1313 Sherman St.
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Kent:
RECEIVED
OCT 2 8 1991
Mined Land
Reclamation Division
RE: Abandonment of GA-3, GA-4 and GA-5 monitoring wells as previousty approved in Trapper's 1989
Annual Reclamation Report (see Section 2.8) to CMLRD.
The following report is submitted in accordance with Colorado regulation 4.07.3(2,3) and Trapper's
approved mining and reclamation permit which requires Trapper to report, within 60 days, the abandon-
ment oFany well used For monitoring purposes. In Trapper's 1989 Annual Reclamation Report, a request
was made to abandon three inactive groundwater monitoring wells (GA-3, GA-4 and GA-5) which have not
been in use since 1977. The wells were established to satisfy an EIS baseline requirement earty in the
mining and monitoring history of Trapper Mine. All three wells were drilled to monitor the QR wal seam
aquifer near the coordinates 406,OOON and 1417,700E. Two active monitoring wells (GA-1 and GA-2),
within the same area, are still monitored on a biannual basis as per our approved permit (permit section
4.8.5.2x). All three wells were sealed on 10/3/91 in accordance with appropriate state requirements and
Trapper's approved abandonment plan.
The primary purpose for abandoning these wells is not only that the wells are unmonitored, but this would
allow Trapper to construct a truck runaway ramp above the haulroad switchback referted to as the "S-
curve." The runaway yuck ramp would provide a safe road exit in the event of a haul truck brake failure
when descending Derringer Pit ramp roads 1 and 2.
Attached is a drill hole abandonment report form outlining specific abandonment information for each well.
Keno if you have any questionsn or concerns, please contact me.
Sincerely, ~ ~ /~
~~~C~~/
William Agnew
Sr. Environmental Engineer
CM~\OCI731
Enclosure
c l.M.
