Sherman
Exewtive Director
(vacant)
6tate Engineer
We have reviewed your May 4, 2007 letter and the previous March 30, 2006 letter requesting renewal of the
substitute water supply plan for the above referenced gravel pits owned by Valco Inc. The required $257 fee has been
paid (transaction number 3616187). This approval will cover the period June 1, 2007 through May 31, 2009.
The maximum ground water exposure that will occur during this plan at each pit has been revised since the
August 10, 2006 approval letter, and those revised acres are as listed below.
Total Pre-1981 Post-1980
Well Well Exposure Exposure Exposure
Pit Permit ID acres acres acres
Canon City East 52183-F 1205760 30.1 15.4 14.7
Rocky Ford East 52017-F 1705986 47.3 17.4 29.9
Lamar East 52184-F 6706363 35.4 13.2 22.2
The maximum annual consumption that will occur during this plan at each pit is given below. The monthly
distribution of the values, and the lagged affects on the Arkansas River, are detailed on your table which is attached.
At the Canon City East pit pumping for batch plant uses is through well no. 22830-F (Well ID 1205640). At the Rocky
Ford East pit pumping for batch plant uses is through well no. 10525-F (Well ID 1705985). Use of these wells for
these purposes is covered by this plan.
Batch Plant Material Total
Evaporation Operations Washing Consumption
Pit af~f ~ f~ af~f
Canon City East 45.57 6.47 0.83 52.87
Rocky Ford East 118.52 1.92 0.47 120.92
Lamar East 92.21 0 0.44 92.65
It is anticipated the replacement water will be provided from 2 shares of the Rocky Ford Ditch which you have
estimated yield 25.72 acre-feet annually, and from up to 250 acre-feet per year of consumable water obtained from the
Pueblo Board of Water Works, for which Valco has a 15 year lease (through June 15, 2013, extendable for one 70
year period). Valco has also obtained an allocation of 6.8 acre-feet of water from LAWMA associated with 8 LAWMA
shares owned by Valco and 79 acre-feet of water associated with 79 Preferred LAWMA shares leased by Valco, which
will be used for replacement at the Lamar East Pit. To the extent water is insufficient from the above sources, PBWW
leased water will be delivered to make up the remaining depletion. Lastly, the applicant will use 25 shares of the
Canon City and Oil Creek Ditch which you have estimated will yield of 38.34 acre-feet annually.
