The ezcessive precipitation
has resulted in CC&V repotting 3o•day average weak acid dissociable cyanide ("CNw~D")
concentrations slightly higher than the 0.021 mg/l value specified in the referenced permit at
point OOlA for the months of May, June, July, and August. Notice of upset conditions at 001 A
was provided to the Water Quality Control Division ("WQCD") in letters dated June 25, 1999,
July Z7, 1999, August 27, 1999, and September 28, 1999.
In a letter dated October 4, 1999 CC&V provided additional information on CNwao for the (1)
North Underdrain ("NUD") 24-inch diameter pipe, (2) South Underdrain ("SUD") 24-inch
diameter pipe, (3) four-inoh solid pipe (SP), (4) point OOIA, and (5) a sample point looated 650
feet downstream of OOlA (AG 1.5+650). During the meeting on October 20, 1999, you
questioned the source of the CNww and the discrepancybetween CNw~D concentrations in the
NUD, SUD, and SP versus concrntrations at point 001 A. More specifically, you observed the
CNw„o values at the NUD, SUD, and SP are lower than the CNw~D concentrations at point
OOlA. As promised, CC&V hereby is providing additional information czplaining the origin and
concentration of CNwno at point OOlA.
Z00-9DI' ZO d lZE-1 YSZE88981lI 7M1 0107 r,!»:aDrd 9t'~EI 88-l0-730
