Box 1193
Canon City, CO 81215-1193
Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Sirs;
M-a.~-b5~-~
RECEIVED
AUG 01 1997
Division of nnmera~s tt Geology
My husband and I Gve directly in front of the proposed gravel and strip mine area in Parkdale, Colorado,
Permit #CUP 97-5. Agile Stone Systems, Inc. is requesting a Life of the Mine Conditional Use Permit at
this site and I am most concerned about the following:
Blasting five days per week of granite rock located duectly above a known geological fault line
without any surveys or research into how that may affect landslides or rock shppage or even
re-activation of the fault in this azea. Also, item 24 in Agile Stone's Conditional Use Permit
Application states that your department will "assure thax the property will be properly reclaimed";
however, from what I have been given to understand, there is no reclamation process available for the
bench cut mining of the mountain -only scarring.
Agile Stone Systems, Inc. is asking for a permit to mine 513.2 acres altogether. Their mapped mining
area adds up to 128 (just under 25% of the total permitted area). According to these figures they will
not have to reclaim any portion of the land. In addition, none of the permits agree with each other as ~
to the total area to be mined. One adds up to 128 acres, another permit adds up to about 57 acres , ~
and during the ]uly 22nd meeting Mr. Fehr stated they would be mining only 77 acres.
Also, to access the North side of Tallahassee Creek by rail and car Agile is only proposing to utilize
corrugated metal pipe culverts. They are planning 24 hour per day, 7 day per week operation, mainte-
nance and loading of the rail cars and rail line and 16 hour operations for trucking. Our own well source
may be interrupted because oftheir activities; and access off of County Road 157 onto Highway 50 is an
awkward location for major traffic egress and ingress, an invitation to traffic jams.
I am not against commerce and industry in the Fremont County azea, I am against commerce and industry
without regulation and careful governance -especially when it's in my back yard. I am hoping that your
department will not allow this project to go forward without the regulations that will protect our area.
Thank you for considering my concerns.
Sincer ,
Susan teers
cc: Governor Roy Romer, Senator Ken Chlouber, Representative Larry Schwarz
