III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII D co Date:1211112001
5'~
2.05.3 OPERATION PLAN: PERMIT AREA
Production Methods and Description/Operation
The Meadows No. 1 mine was a surface coal mine working at a capacity of
approximately 100-120 thousand tons of coal per year. This rate of mining,
using a dragline, disturbed approximately 7.5 acres per year.
No further mining operations are proposed at the Meadows No. 1 mine. Sun
reclaimed the disturbed area in 1983-1984. Map 7 shows the boundaries of the
mining and reclamation activities that took place at Meadows No. 1 and illus-
trates the location of existing facilities. A complete description of the
reclamation plan, techniques, sequence, and timetable is included in Section
2.05.4.
Mine Facilities
Signs and Markers. Sun Coal Company, during the bonding period, will main-
tain mine and permit identification signs and perimeter markers.
Bridge. The entrance to the Meadows No. 1 permit area is located on U.S.
~\
Highway 40 about four miles west of Milner, Colorado. Abridge was constructed
across the Yampa River in 1976 to permit access to coal processing and mining
areas. The bridge is a three-section, 14' x 200' steel-and-concrete structure.
The deck is solid concrete, supported by prestressed concrete/cable beams on
four-unit H-pile piers. A pier at each end and three piers equidistant in the
length provide support for a 50-ton load. Sun constructed the bridge approxi-
mately 2.7 feet above (elevation 6,435.7 feet) the theoretical 100-year flood in
accordance with Federal Flood Plain Management Guidelines.
- 161 -
(Rev. 5/86)
