As you might be awaze, proposed sand
pit is on land adjacent to State Land Boazd property. The Nature Conservancy is the
lessee of this land, namely the 48,000 acre Bohart Ranch.
The Nature Conservancy's echoes previously voiced concerns regazding the
potential introduction and further spread of noxious weeds. Surrounding ranches could
be disturbed if noxious weeds took hold during the mining operation. Since many of the
haul trucks travel to and from areas in the county that have noxious weeds, transported
weed seeds germinating in the azea will need to be addressed under the umbrella of a
weed management plan.
Secondly, The Nature Conservancy is concerned with potential deterrence
- spreading beyond the boundaries of the sand pit operation. Of particulaz concern are
effects on adjacent wildlife habitat for pronghorn, mountain plover and burrowing owls
to name a few.
