SHELTON, Director
April 14, 1987
Mr. Larry Reschke
Project Engineer
Snowmass Coal Company
P.O. Box 1354
Palisade, Colorado 81526
Re: Annual Hydrologic Report, 1986 - Permit No. C-81-025
Dear Mr. Reschke:
The Division has reviewed the Annual Hydrologic Report. The North Thompson
Creek Mines are presently in the process of being totally reclaimed. A change
in personnel lead to several sites not being sampled in accordance with the
approved monitoring plan. However, due to the lack of activity at the mine,
no data of significance was lost. The monitoring of wells, associated with
the refuse pile undergoing reclamation was conducted in accordance with the
plan. Also, the wells required to be more frequently monitored upon flooding
of the mines had appropriate monitoring accomplished.
Mo significant variations in water quality were noted. The No. 3 Mine is
being flooded so this discharge to North Thompson Creek is no longer
occurring. The No. 1 Mine discharge is still occurring.
Snowmass needs to request a technical revision to remove or replace Well No. 1.
If you have any questions, please call me.
Sincerely, i
Candace M.
