Western
Mobile
Aggregate ~ Asphalt • Concrete
January 14, 1998

Mr. Thomas Schreiner
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
RE: Mann Lake Pit, M-82-147
Dear Mr. Schreiner:
~~II~~II~'I~II~~'I~
sss
Corporate -Central Services
r5so tv rnn aye.
Oenvei Colorado 80104
303.657.4334
Faz 303.657.4339
As a follow up to your December 9th inspection, January 7th letter, and our conversation this
morning regarding the water augmentation and substitute supply plan for the above referenced
pit, the following explanation should clear up the confusion.
We have gone through water court and are approved to construct water storage reservoirs on this
property. As part of the construction process, we pull the shales up from the bottom of the pit
and compact them in the banks to seal out the ground water.
In our discussions with the State Engineers Office, a sand and gravel well permit is needed when
exposing ground water. We applied for the well permit because we will be exposing ground
water until the reclamation is complete. Once the SEO has certified the reservoir as a water
storage vessel, the well permit will be canceled and water augmentation will no longer be an
issue.
This property is owned by the Adams County. They will o~vn the reservoir once the reclamation
is complete.
Should you have any additional questions, please contact me at (303) 657-4331.
Sincerely, ~~
[ilia Goettemoeller
Senior Land Manager
A Redland Group company
