The demonstration project will be
coordinated with the Colorado Department of Health, Mined Land
Reclamation Division and Wyoming Fuel Company. Phase I will
include discharge without chemical additives for a maximum of two
weeks beginning from the date of the first discharge from Pond
003. Parameters to be monitored from 003 and 0028 will include
total suspended solids, total iron, flow, visual oil and grease
(if oil sheen is present a sample will be taken) and pH. Total
iron will be monitored once per week. All other parameters will
be monitored five times per week.
In the event, under Phase I, effluent limitations cannot be
met without chemical treatment Wyoming Fuel Company is proposing
to utilize NALCO 7863 flocculant. Prior to use of this
flocculant, Wyoming Fuel Company would respond to the adequacy
requirements per the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division
memorandum dated February 12, 1986 regarding the use of chemical
additives. This test would extend for approximately four weeks
depending on agency and company requirements.
