We
purchased our property in June, 2004, with the intent to rent its cabin and
stables, to raise alfalfa and hay, and, most importantly, as a future building site
for us and our family. The property is slightly over 47 acres and includes bluffs on
the north boundary adjacent to the proposed quany. Our property is also
adjacent to those of Janet Croissant and Lany Chick who are among the many
property owners who have objections to the proposed quarry.
At present we have tenants in the cabin and employ a rancher living in Austin
who is irrigating, seeding, fertilizing and cultivating the ground for alfalfa and hay
production. He is also grazing cattle to help stimulate the feed crops. He has also
helped us to make improvements to the road and the outbuildings on the
ProPertY•
Benson Brothers purchased the proposed quarry site after we purchased our
property. If the quarry is approved it will have both immediate negative impacts
and present long-term hazards that are totally unacceptable. Not only do the
potential dust, noise, and water-table effects negatively impact living conditions
and crop production, the sandstone bluffs will likely be unstabilized, presenting
threat to life and limb, not to mention the esthetic beauty of the area.
While my wife and I now reside in California, we are native Coloradoans raised
and educated in Colorado, we have family and other property in Colorado, we
pay taxes in Colorado and we hope to reside on this property and pass it on to
our children. We have not only purchased this property, we have made
improvements and will continue to do so if it is not ruined by the proposed quarry.
We would never have purchased the land had we known that Benson Brothers
would try to quarry the adjacent property.
