.Elevation ranges 'from 3800 to 5000 feet. Topography is nearly
,.level to gently rolling sandy uplands. and wide valleys with j
.slopes less than 10~. This site is commonly located in transi-
-.:~ tional`areas between sandhills and hardlands.-

. :Average, annual precipitation is 13 to 17. inches of which 75~ falls '
. .during ,the ,growing. season. !
' The opt,imum.growing season of native plants is late spring and
_ ~..summer;,for.the best. production of the warm season grasses.

are common. ~ -

The vegetation is.`a~'mixture of tall,.mid and~~short grass complex
• .' with .the mid-grasses such as needle-and-thread, little bluestem, i
_ side-oats-:grama and Junegrass being the dominant grasses present.
Prairie'sandreed is the most important Gall grass while sand blue-. ~
' ~ stem,:.yellow Indiangrass and switchgrass maybe present but are 1
not abundant: Thickspike wheatgrass,'blue grama „sedges. and sand ~
dropseed-may make up one-third•of the vegetative composition. '
