KUIPER, STATE ENGINEER
SUBJECT: GUNNISON READY-MIX CONCRETE, APPLICATION FOR MINING
AND RECLAMATION PERMIT, No. 77-23
This is to acknowledge receipt of material pertaining to the above referenced
application. As requested, we have reviewed the water resource aspects
of the application and the following comments are presented for your con-
sideration:
1 . The report states that the pit will ater tl to
facilitate gravel removal and that the water table
will not be lowered significantly. While this may be
true, I would suggest that the ground water level be
monitored to the north of the pit to insure that the
domestic wells will not be affected by the dewatering
operation. The depth at which the pump is set in .
each well is the best indicator on whether the de-
watering plan will affect the surrounding wells and
not necessarily the depth of the well.
2. No mention is made on water requirements for washing,
dust control, or processing.
3. The evaporation estimate is too low for the Gunnison area
as shown on U. S. Weather Bureau and SCS evaporation
figures. These documents indicate the net evaporation
during April through November would average 18 to 20
inches. Thus, the loss from the proposed ponds could
approach 85 to 93 acre-feet per year. The applicant
