~E•BIT III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII NG P~ • RECEIVED
999
NOV 91983
• 1. SAND ANO GRAVEL. RESOURCES : P91NED LnA~ND RECLAMATION DIVISION
It is estimated that La Poudre Sand and Gravel, Inc.'s grave9' T~Iasp~N~~b~~~rces
contains a total of 4,252,010 gross tons CzT362,210 CY) of recoverable
commercial quality sand and gravel. Approximately 1,457,910 tons (971,940 CV)
of overburden and topsoil material which will Piave to be removed and properly
stored prior to mining the commercial aggregates. The overbvrden, and adequate
topsoil, will be used in accomplishing the reclamation plan as proposed.
2. GENERAL OPERATING METHODS;
The operation proposed for the site is an open pit gravel operation utilizing
normal construction equipment including draglines, loaders, scrapers, dozers
and trucks. The equipment will operate in a manner normally used for both
wet and dr-y gravel mining operations and construction excavations. tlo blast-
ing will be required., Only the portion of the area being used for excavation,
stockpile storage and the processing area will be removed from the existing
use and land cover condition.
• An area of g9,4 acres has been set aside to remain as open space in its natural
state. This area consists of the Cache La Poudre River witha 100'widtheach side
of the channel, the Eaton and Whitney Ditches; the small area between the Whitney
Ditch and the Cache La Poudre River; the area in the Southwest corner between
the County fioad and the Cache La Poudre River. Also included are two areas
with heavy tree growth near the Cache La Poudre River and the set-back from
County Road No. 13. Set aside of these areas will provide for the natural
function and maintenance of the waterways, and also maintain some natural
areas. This will also provide for immediate use and extension of the recla-
mation plan upon project completion.
The remainder of the area has been divided into several smaller working units
using the natural boundaries of the river and ditches, the ownership property
lines and easement lines to fit the overall concept. These units essentially
may be worked indepenriently without affecting the other units. However, when
an area is opened, mining will continue until completion so that the distur-
bances are minimized and reclamation can proceed on a phase-by-phase basis.
• The procedu+•e on each phase will be to first remove and stockpile the topsoil
offthe portion to be mined. Next, the overburden will be removed with the
Revised: 11-4-83
D-1
