iiiiiiiuiiniiiiii
999
Doc Date:12H 112001
Sly 2.04.8 CLIMATOLOGICAL INFORMATION
The mine is located in the foothills on the eastern slope of the Wet
Mountains while the loadout is located in a lowlands area adjacent to the
floodplain of the Arkansas River. Although obvious topographic
differences exist, climatic conditions in both areas are similar with
moderate temperatures and limited precipitation. In the mine plan area
temperatures seldom rise over 90°F in the summer or drop below zero (0) in
the winter, most precipitation occurs as a result of upslope conditions
during spring and summer months, and prevailing winds are from the west
with moderate velocities.
The closest active reporting stations to the mine area are at Canon Lity
and Florence, Colorado. Both stations are within fifteen miles of the
mine area and ten (10) miles of the loadout area. Meteorological data for
the Canon City and Florence stations have been collected over intervals
• of 60 and 14 years respectively. Information from these stations is
summarized in this application as the most accurate long-term records
available.
Precipitation
Average monthly precipitation for Canon City and Florence is shown on
Table 18, Average Monthly Precipitation. In general, winter precipitation
falls as snow or sleet, whereas summer precipitation consists of scattered
local showers or regional thunderstorms.
Based on the available data, normal annual precipitation for the area is
12.9 inches with most of the precipitation occurring during the spring and
summer months.
Temperature
Average monthly temperatures for Canon City and Florence are shown Table
19, Average Monthly Temperature.
2.04.8-1
