M-86-007 BACON/SOUTHWICK QUARRY
Dear Mr. Berry:
I have reviewed aerial photos and other information provided by the appli-
cant regarding the historic operation of this quarry in Section 26-6-70.
This property is zoned O-Open which requires Special Review approval for
any quarry that began operation or expanded since November 29, 1973.
From my research, it appears that the Bacon/Southwick (Piasonville Stone)
quarry has not expanded beyond the area that was being mined in 1973. We
would, therefore, consider this to be a "legal, non-conforming" quarry as
long as it does not expand beyond the 1973 boundary.
The quarry operator has applied for Special Review approval so the quarry
can be expanded as necessary; if approved, it will then become a conforming
use. The application will be considered by the Board of County Commissioners
on April 21, 1986.
Sincerely,
Gerald L.
