~G v-wr f f' ~,r /~
S _ P~,,-~-~I~-t~ ~~,e~hJt
7-76-03
To whom it may concern:
RECEIVED
JUL 21 2003
pivision ~f Minerals and GeoloBY
This letter serves as my notice of protest against DMG issuing a permit for proposed
mine Haldorson San and Gravel File N, M-200 37. Below are my concerns:
1. Water: I request that the DMG require the applicant to have a more thorough
water assessment done before a decision is issued. This assessment should
include data from a qualified hydrologist including well monitoring for 1 yeaz
throughout the 156-acre site. This report should ensure that the plan will prevent
ground water contamination as well as negatively impacting the springs that exist
directly downstream of the deepest part of the proposed pit. This testing should
not be at taxpayers' expense.
2. Cropland: Who is going to fazm a reclaimed pit 5000 feet long, 1000 feet wide
and 40 feet deep after all the gravel is removed? I request that the applicant be
required to show that there is enough fill material to leave the hole fazmable.
3. Noise: Three schools, two churches, and over 600 residences are within 1 mile of
the proposed mine. The industrial noise standazds are inappropriate for this area.
4. Dust: This mesa receives high spring & summer winds. The pit will adversely
impact the 600 households with the increased particulate matter in the air.
Thank you for considering my protest to this pit approval.
Sincerely,
Susan Pritchett
14114 Matterhorn Way
Montrose, Co. 81401
CC: Mr. James S.
