F, Suite 101
Durango, CO 81301
near sir:
I am adamantly opposed to the proposed
ation by the Grand Junction Pipe and Supply
Delta, Colorado along the GUnriison River.
February 23, 1999
Received
FES 2 3 1.`::~9
Dt;r-t;Go Fuld Cfii:9
Division c. a: ;: rc ; ~ Gco!a9Y
gravel pit oper-
four miles east oP
These are my primary concerns:
1. Heavy trucks (never covered) would be pulling out onto
State Highway 65 just north of the junction with State
Highway 92. Highway 65 is a narrow two-Sane highway,
heavily traveled and largely by senior citizens who have
lived in this area, iriciufling Cedaredge, all of their
lives. They tend to drive slowly and cautiously on a
highway that was until the last two or three years lightly
traveled.
2. Highway 65 ie a Scenic Hyxay over Grand Mesa.
3. The eighty-one acres oP farmland and along the river a
favorite wildlife habitat. Haiti and golden eagles, hawks,
blue herons, foxes, and deer among the creatures calling
ft home.
3. People living in nice homes on the mesa above the river,
paying plenty of state property tax, are not yet aware of
the impact the noise, dose, anfl desolate, ugly land being
espioited will have on their lives.
4. There are already three gravel pits right in she general
area, one of them belonging to Grand Junction Pipe and
Supply.
4. This operation could last as long as thirty yeass.
5. I have seen the eo-called restoration and reclamation done
by this company. It 18 a !ar Cry from the lovely picture
painted by their epokeepeople. One visit Prom the Mined
Land personel could verify this statement.
6. There are protected species of fish in that river, along
with trout. A Saw suit by the National Wildlife Federa-
tion or any conservation gro~up would atop the project, or
at least cost the gravelcll~$~R~ in legal fees.
I beg you, please do not grant a permit for this operation, which
ie oleo planned to include a permanent concrete and asphalt giant
with haul-ovt road and power line.
Sf cerF y rs,
.v ~ .-.~..,a~~--;
~C.
