At the time of the last letter, setting
September 30, 1981, as the compliance date, the existing fan was ventilating
the mine adequately. In August we started noticing a sharp reduction in
the ventilation efficiency of our fan. A ventilation specialist was brought
in to analyze the present system and suggest a new fan capable of serving
this operation for several years. Our initial hopes were to have a new
fan chosen and on site prior to the noise deadline. The specific fan to
be ordered was not chosen until the first week in October. Approval to
purchase the new fan will be taken care of in a company partnership meeting
October 15, 1981.
Any new fan would .have different dimensions. Anything done to the
present fan would have to be re-done for a new fan. The new fan will be
ordered with the manufacture's best noise control attachment already
installed. Once the fan has been put on order exact dimensions will be
available to lay out the footing for the Sound-blox wall. Delivery
on the fan is scheduled for six (6) weeks after the order is placed.
The Sound-blox " were delivered in September and are available for
inspection. When the new fan was decided on the decision was made to use
