These raptors use the
lease areas as hunting territory. Nesting may occur as
suitable habitat exists but no active nests. were located
during the October 1978 survey of lease tract C-26913.
A large stick nest, probably used for Swainson's hawks,
was located on lease tract C-22676. Various other raptors
expected to occur seasonally or as migrants on the site
are listed in Appendix D (NWCCRES).
A prairie falcon (Falco nexicanus) nest, was located
adjacent to lease C-26913 in the NE'x sec. 9, T. 4 N., R. 86 W.
The present status of the nest is unknown. There are three
active golden eagle nests in the area surrounding C-22644.
One is located ~ mile north of the lease area on Pinnacle Peak.
Another is '~ mile west of the tract. Another is found on
land adjacent to the east side of the tract (SE'-~ sec. 17,
T. 4 N., R. 86 W.). The cliffs to the northwest provide
probable and potential raptor nest sites. The tract is
used as hunting range by eagles and other raptors in the
area.
Song Birds
The wide variety of song birds known or expected to occur
on the site can be found in Appendix D (NWCCRES).
Amphibians and Reptiles
Species observed by Dames and Moore on applications C-22644
100
