COLORADO BT625 <br />August 11, 1980 <br />.'~r.~ORAR"DUP1 <br />~tER $15 <br />TO District Planager b Assist District Afanager, Craig <br />FRO*f Area Planager, Little Snake Resource Area <br />SUBJECT: August 6, 1980 ;feeling at Energy Fuels Mine Concerning <br />Leasing in the Identified Elk Unsuitability Zone. <br />The subject meeting was well attended by all agencies involved (see <br />:a lathed list). <br />~nerov Fuels opened the meeting with a brief by Gerald Grandey who <br />o::plained the background of lease C-22~GY6" and the unsuitable zone. <br />He identified studies that have since been completed by Energy Fuels <br />b}• their wildlife biologists and that these studies have been presented <br />to Colorado Division of lildlife (DOW). Division of 5dildlife's review <br />thereof resulted in the letter (7/1/80) sent to us recommending re- <br />c.~~~sideration of the no lease area, as the studies tend to disprove the <br />~•i-icinal contentions by DOT; that the area contained crucial elk calving <br />grounds. <br />Energ}• Fuels then presented the study results of the area which was <br />prepared under the direction of Kent Crofts, Mine Environmental <br />C.•er~i-ator. T}ie : [ud}• s1FOi:s only a very small number of elk calving <br />:~ t'.ie area in 1919 and 1950 and vegetative cover significantly different <br />.::gin vegetation on =leas c:lFere elk were actually calving.
