Ranney
Reclamation Specialist
Division of Minerals & Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Rm. 215
Denver. Colorado 80203
Re: Oakridge Energy, Inc., File No. C-92-080
Dear Mr. Ranney:
This office has reviewed your correspondence of August 11, 1992 and the
permit to conduct coal mining for the above project.
A search of our files indicates that much of the permit area has been
surveyed for cultural resources and that archaeological site SLP356 is
within the mine area. This site, which has not been evaluated in terms of
the National Register of Historic Places criteria, is listed as a
habitation site in a cultivated area. We are aware that the area has been
mined since the 1980's, however, based on the maps in the permit we are
uncertain whether this site has been impacted. We, therefore, recommend
that an archaeologist relocate and evaluate this site in terms of the
National Register criteria. This information should then be forwarded to
our office for review. If the site is determined to be eligible a
determination of effect must be completed. This is done in accordance with
our May 1991 Memorandum of Understanding.
If we may be of further assistance please contact Jim Green at 866-4674.
Sincerely,
/ / ~; -
'~/`' James E.
