Drt qrl nr
This letter is in regards to your complaint concerning excessive dust
from the Chimney Rock Coal operation located near your properrf.
On June 23, 1982, I performed an on-site inspection of the Chirnn,:y Rocl:
facility. I was accompanied by Mr. 11ike Keegan of Chimney Rock Ccal.~
I was-able to observe most phases of the mining operation during my
visit. Emissions from the [~,o rock drills ~:~ere o-mll controlled--one
by use of water spray and the other using a vacuum system. A r,aCcr
truck was in use on the haul road;. More importantly, 14r. Keegan stated that the area being mined
which is closest to your property will be contoured and revegetated
within the next twelve months.
In conclusion, I did not observe a dust problem at Chimney Rock during
my inspection and they did seem to be making an effort to control the
dust that they are generating. Although different meteorological con-
ditions may occasionally create a dust problem that affecCS you, I am
hopeful that Che revege[aLion of that part of their mine nearest your
home will alleviate your problem.
Please feel free to contact ine again if you have further problems.
Sincerely,
James A.
