P.O. Box 591 Somerset, Colorado 81434 Dear Mr. Conn: DEC ? 1987 MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION I have enclosed the Mt. Gunnison No. 1 mine mining plan approval document. The Assistant Secretary-land and Minerals Management approved the mining plan, as modified, and it became effective on November 18, 1987. The Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (QSMRE) has accepted the bond in the amount of X2,250,000 payable to both the State of Colorado and the United State of America. The mining plan approval document contained herein supersedes the previously approved mining plan for the Mt. Gunnison No. 1 mine. Please read the mining plan approval document to be sure that you understand the requirements and conditions. In conjunction with OSMRE's processing of this mining plan modifications, OSMRE also reviewed the previously approved mining plan and the Federal permit number CO-0021 for the Mt. Gunnison No. 1 mine. All terms and conditions of the previously issued Federal permit are covered by the Colorado permit number C-80-007 and the mining plan approval document. Because the Secretary of the Interior and the State of Colorado have entered into a cooperative agreement which provides for the delegation to the State of the permitting responsibilities for operations on Federal lands pursuant to Section 523 of SMCRA, the previously issued Federal permit was allowed to expire. Enclosed is a copy of the newspaper notice we sent to the North Fork Times, Paonia, Colorado. When published, the newspaper notice constitutes official notification of the action.
