Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
Thanks for sending the photos of your mine site. As you recall, Mr. Steve Shuey, DMG
Environmental Protection Specialist, inspected your permit azea on 7anuazy 28, 2000. Mr. Shuey
found three problems that required certain corrective actions. One of the problems Mr. Shuey
noted was the near vertical highwall on the north side of the east pit. You were required to grade
the highwall to the approved gradient or submit a technical revision requesting permission to
mine the site at a steep gradient. It appeazs from your photos that the highwall on the north side
(and west side) of the east pit is still fairly steep. Did you grade these areas?
One of the other problems noted by Mr. Shuey was his instruction that you specify the status of
mining operations in the west pit. You sent a photo of the west pit but did not elaborate on
mining status (or reclamation status). Could you provide a short narrative describing what you
aze doing in the west pit? Has mining ceased? Have you initiated reclamation? What kind of
activity is occurring?
If you have any questions, please give me a call at 303-866-4060.
Sincerely,
r
/V~l"
~/ James Dillie
~~
Environmental Protection Specialist
V co; Harry Posey (e-mail)
Office of Office of Colorado
Mined Land Rxlamation Active and Inactive Mines Geological Survey
