Barry, I I I, <br />Director <br />M E M O R A N D U M <br />T0: Dave Shelton-Supervisory Reclamation Specialist. <br />FROM: Jim Schmieding - Reclamation Specialist <br />DATE: July 31, 1979 <br />SUBJECT: Illegal operation in a Colorado Division of Highway <br />pit which had been reclaimed - Holyoke Gun Club Pit <br />#77-75. <br />On July 30, 1979, I met with Joe Intermill representative for the <br />Colorado Division of Highways, and we field checked the above <br />application, which is located 2 miles east of Holyoke, Colorado <br />in Phillips County and the following was found: <br />1) The Colorado Division of Highways had reclaimed the pit to: <br />a. 4:1 slopes. <br />b. reseeded the area and it was coming back sand <br />dropseed, alfalfa, and sunflower seed. <br />c. 6 inches of topsoil replaced. <br />2) That an illegal operation (which is unknown) <br />a. ripped out the 4:1 slopes. <br />b. ripped out the reseeded areas. <br />c. ripped ,out the 6 inches of topsoil. <br />i <br />1 recommend: <br />1) We find out who the illegal operator is. ~G~ /. ~ <br />2) Bring this in front of the Board and state that the <br />Colorado Division of Highways should not be held responsible. <br />JS/pm <br />
