Executive Director
i
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DI\
DAVID C. SHELTON, Director
l6~ ! q8'6
Mr. Norm Harvey
Colorado Aggregate Co. of New Mexico, Inc.
P. 0. Box 106
Mesita, Colorado 81142
Re: Mesita Hill Mine Amendment - Protest Letter
File no. M-77-227
Dear Mr. Harvey:
Enclosed please find a copy of a letter of protest received from Mr. George
W. Woodard on behalf of Mr. Charles R. Steed concerning the above captioned
112 permit amendment. He raises some issues concerning operations outside
of the presently permitted area. I suggest that you read this letter and
examine the claims made therein. Then, contact Camille Farrell and respond
to these claims before the scheduled January 22-23, 1986 meeting of the
Mined Land Reclamation Board. In this way, our staff can be prepared to
apprise the Board of the protest and also be able to tell the Board how
your company responds to the claims made in the protest letter.
Since I have not reviewed your amendment application, nor have I recently
inspected the Mesita Hill Mine, I make no judgment on the validity (or lack
thereof)of the claims made by Mr Woodard in his letter. I simply wish to
get this copy of the protest letter to you as soon as possible such that
you and Camille can be prepared to deal with it prior to the Board meeting.
As per your request, I have made an attempt to schedule your amendment appli-
cation for late on the Board meeting agenda. i think that it is likely that
all of the agenda will be considered by the Board on Wed., Jan. 22, 1986.
Therefore, you can most probably expect that this matter will be heard on
Wed. afternoon. However, you will still need to contact our office on
Mon., Jan 20, 1486 to confirm this scheduling.
Please contact Camille to resolve the issue of this protest letter.
Sincerely,
//"4~~ ~• o~-
Mark S.
