In an attempt to open a diabgue with some one who can help us with an untenable
situation concerning the Lotoff gravel pit, I write to you to inform you that in spite of building
permits that were taken out many years ago speafying that top soil that was to remain on the site
for use in restoring the area at the end of the mining very much appears io be being solo off and
transported elsewhere by the current owner's. Trucks hauling dirt as well as grave! have passed
by us in droves. It appears that rlo agency in the Greeley area is monitoring arty of these gangs-
on.
We have been told the man in charge of the current mining is Ron Richardson, and is
leasing the pit from Lobff, but have received no information as to whom, if anyone, has the proper
permits for this excavation.
Worse yet, is the total disregard for people Irving in the area in terms of dust contrd, and
quite often, six days a week, the dust on the gravel road leading into the gravel pit is so intense
that we cannot even see our chicken house fifty feet away as our residence and office adjoin the
Lobff properly to the south end of the pit
The previous miners, Aggregate lndusirfes (Camas) were kind enough to water down
the road numerous times each day, and other dirt nwvers in the area frequently hire one of
several water haulers in the area to water the road. This is a huge help as 1 have third stage
emphysema, my wife is not much better, and my 86 year dd rtrother lives in the apartment
connected to our home and office. We are not the only family greatly affected by this lack of
wnsideration, as there are four residences and another business abng this gravel road, two very
small children that live next door to us, other aduMs in their sbrties and seventies and numerous
visiting grand children present at any given time.
Attempts to communicate with the present mining operator's to get Borne relief from this
dust situatkxr result in a °pass the buck°, no one here can help you, sorry for your inconvenience,
twt we are going to keep doing as we please, because titter all rt casts money to water down your
road, etc., etc.
Previous attempts to get the Health department or the Environmental Protection Agency
involved have been fruitless and both those agenaes suggested that your agency would be the
one to help us with this life-threatening problem. I am also faxing a map of the pit area. Please,
our entire neighbofiood needs your help!
