Shuey
Colorado Division of Mines & Geology
484 Turner Dr.
Suite F101
Durango, CO 81 301-791 0
•
RECEIVED
AUG 31998
DIV. OF MINERALS
8 GEOLOGY
CERTIFIED MAIL -RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED P 120 595 704
RE: Bulldog Project -Mineral County, CO
Results of Spring /Seep Site /nspection and Sampling
Dear Mr. Shuey:
This letter is in response to your letter dated May 29, 1998 (copy attached)
concerning additional conditions on the tracer injection plan portion of the stipulated
approval for Technical Revision No. 7 for the Bulldog Reclamation permit -File M-
77-215. In particular, condition 2. requires that the springs located at the toe of
the 9360 waste rock dump be placed on the tracer detection sampling list and that
one characterization sample from each spring [21 be collected and analyzed for the
same analysis parameters as currently used for the seepage from the 9360 adit.
Attached please find the water quality analytical results from samples collected
from the 2 seeps [DT-1; DT-2] along with the Chain of Custody forms. Also
attached is an extract from a trip report prepared by Water Management
Consultants (Jerry Rowe) describing observations and information collected in the
field during sampling of DT-2. Please note, among other items of interest, that B.
Boppe recalls these areas as showing spring/seepage flows at this location for a
number of years including during operation of the Bulldog Mine. The exact source
of the water, while not verified, is believed by him to be from the old original Windy
Gulch streambed. As you know, streamflow in Windy Gulch in this particular area
is conveyed by a culvert installation completed when the waste rock dump was
under development.
Thank you for your time and attention on this matter. If you have any questions,
please contact me in the San Francisco office.
Very Truly Yours,
Cc: ~/A. Sorenson -Colorado DMG, Denver
P.
