DIVISION OF RECLAMATION, MINING AND SAFETY
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phone: (303) 866-3567
FAX: (303) 832-8106
June 15, 2007
Lynn Olin
.~, Bridal Veil Construction, LLC
/PO Box 1821
STATE OF COLORADO~wI
Ouray, CO 81427 ~ / /
Re: Bridal Veil Pit, Permit M-2001-054, Corrective Actions.
Dear Mr. Olin,
COLORADO
DIVISION OE
RECLAMATION
MINING
- Sz -
SAFETY
Bill Owens
Governor
Russell George
Executive Director
Ronald W. Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
Thank you for the prompt, detailed reply to the problems described in the Division's last
~~ inspection report (dated 5/7/0_7)_ I will address the various issues separately in the paragraphs
below. T f
The alleged entry upon USFS ]ands, as stated in the inspection report, was only reported to this
office by the USFS, and not observed by the Division. It was not noted as a problem, but it was
suggested that if need for such entry exists in the future, that permission to do so be gained first. I
wilt forward a copy of your letter to USFS.
Thank you for removing the water with the oily layer on top. If there is any contaminated soil,
please also dispose of that properly. This problem is abated.
Moving or properly containing the nitric acid is still needed. Please write to confirm that a
corrective action has been taken. I may stop by the site for another look after 6/30/07 to ensure
that this is done.
Thank you for the description of runoff and channel/pond issues. It appears reasonable to wait
until after high runoff flows have passed to perform the necessary earthwork. Your request for an
extension till 8/15/07 is approved. Please provide a brief report of the corrective action taken.
I may be reached at the Division's Durango field office: 701 Camino del Rio, Room 125,
Durango, CO 81301.
Sincerely, ~~ ('
~~ ~ ~/(/."l~V
Bob Oswald
Environmental Protection Specialist
Cc: Warren Young, USFS
Ec: Tony Waldron, DBMS
(c:lrco\07-06 docs\bridalveil pb/rco)
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines
