Enforcement
action forthcoming.
The approved mining plan allows for disturbance within 30' feet of the River. This
is a much smaller buffer area than is normally allowed along rivers, and will allow for
the destruction of much of the riparian habitat. This is especially true along the northwest
portion of the permit area wherEe some large cottonwoods exist.

RETIONS:
1. If possible, the staff strongly encourages the operator to leave a 100-foot area
between the river and any disturbance and to save the cottonwood trees in the northwest
portion of the site.
2. The end use of wildlife refuge is compatible with the surrounding area. This end use
would more easily be achieved it the recommendations of the D.O.W. were followed.
Adoption of these recommendations would also probably increase the value of this Land as a
recreational area.
Inspected by:
JL/mt
Ja Lucas
Reclanatian Soec' i.st
