OF MINERALS
8 GEOLOGY
On behalf of our client B & B Excavating, Inc., this letter responds to certain aspects
of the November 19, 1998 Inspection Report concerning your November 16, 1998 site visit.
We want you to know that B8B intends to fully implement all of the Corrective Actions
listed on the final page of the report, and to continue to respond in a way that fully corrects
any problems and enhances company training, policies and procedures to ensure that, to the
extent possible, such situations do not occur in the future.
Your Inspection Report requested B&B to submit to you its initial site
characterization report by today, November 24, 1998. Accordingly, the report and results of
Dames & Moore's November 12, 1998 site sampling are enclosed. As you will see, the
sampling results favorably indicate that 2,4-D was found in only a few locations and at
relatively low concentrations.
the site, the asphalt bag house dust was the only other sample which showed measurable
concentrations of 2,4-D, at 12.0 ppm. Even this level of 2,4-D is considered quite low for
this common, relatively non-toxic, and rapidly biodegradable weed killer.
The sample of the minus''/z inch unprocessed road base pile contained only 1.1 ppm of
2, 4-D. Other than wipe samples of the empty drums, which now have been removed from
Samples were also taken of [he minus''/4 inch road base and wash sand. These
samples contain no 2,4-D or other contaminants that would indicate they were impacted by
any chemical releases that may have occurred on the site. Also, no volatile organic
compounds were found in any of the samples taken from the site.
