Long
Division Director
RE: C-JD-5 Mine, File No. M-77-248, 6/12/97 Inspection Report, Problem Abatement Status
Dear Ms. Carter:
This letter is in response to two items of correspondence received from you regarding the above
referenced permit. The first item of correspondence was undated and was received by the Durango
Field Office on September 3, 1997. This correspondence contained a notice of returning the mine
from temporary cessation status to active status. The reactivation date will be effective September
3, 1997. The notice of reactivation resolves problem no. 1 identified in the Division's 6/12/97
inspecton report.
The second item of correspondence was dated September 30, 1997 and was received by the Durango
Field Office on October 2, 1997. This correspondence contained a map of the D.O.E. Lease area with
the DMG 9.9 acre permit area delineated on the map. The delineation of the permit boundary resolves
a portion of problem no. 2 identified in the Division's 6/12/97 inspection report. Your September 30,
1997 correspondence also referenced completion of the mine identification sign & perimeter marker
installation work also required to be completed under problem no. 2. Please send print photos of the
completed installation work so that the Division can acknowledge resolution of the remaining corrective
actions required under problem no. 2.
The third and last problem identified in the Division's 6/12/97 inspection report was the need to
provide additional financial warranty to the Division. The Division granted a 60 day extension to
November 12, 1997 to resolve this problem in correspondence to the applicant dated September 9,
1997. This problem remains unresolved at the present time.
If you have any questions or if I can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me at
the Durango Field Office, 484 Turner drive, Building F, Suite 101, Durango, CO 81301, telephone no.
970-247-5062, fax no. 970-247-5104.
Sincerely, s%~'~~~
Tom Gillis
Senior Environmental Protection Specialist
/tdg cc: Dorothy Blake, Blake Mining Co.
a:m248fwi2.tdg Ray Fitzgerald, Telluride Mlning Co.
