While I understand the need for mining and respect the <br /> miners, I am not trusting the company, Grand Island Resources, after their history in the past <br /> seven years. For good reasons, I am opposing GIR's application for another discharge permit. <br /> GIR has failed to communicate with me &other Coon Track Creek residents, the City of <br /> Boulder and the Town of Nederland on critical issues related to discharge from the mines. GIR <br /> has not been entirely compliant with its discharge permit since 2019. I witnessed,beginning in <br /> 2019, discharge from the mines killed off all of the trout which lived in Coon Track Creek. <br /> Several pollutant violations from December 2020 to August 2021, involving excessive and <br /> toxic traces of copper and lead, were found in the watershed. The fact that GIR failed to submit <br /> pollutant reports in March and April of 2021 proves that they are not trustworthy. <br /> The proposed increase of Cross Mines'permit area from 9.99 acres to 205.7 acres is absolutely <br /> absurd from a company with past violations in a watershed which serves so many. The <br /> application notes that"GIR feels there is no danger of any hazardous runoff getting into <br /> Nederland's streams from the discharge site." is a ridiculous statement. <br /> GIR is talking about putting a processing mining mill above Boulder's watershed without any <br /> details on this supposed upcoming new mill. The impact to environmental and public health, the <br /> lack of transparency of GIR, and the potential hazards to watershed adds up to this not being an <br /> acceptable place for mining. <br />
