4 Colorado Inactive Mine Reclamation Program
CLOSEOUT REPORT
BOND FORFEITURE PROJECTS
Introduction: The purpose of this project was to reclaim a previously permitted clay mine, located on private land, in
accordance with the approved mining and reclamation plan. The financial warranty for the State Clay Mine was
forfeited and the permit revoked in 1994. The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety will reclaim this site using the
forfeited bond money, and severance tax money.
Permit Number: Operator Name: Mine Name:
P-1977-328 Colorado Brick Company State Clay Mine
Type of Mine: Clay strip mine Commodity Mined: Clay
PRE-RECLAMATION SITE CONDITIONS — The State Clay Mine site was located just north of the intersection of State
Highways 72 and 93, and adjacent to (north of) Rocky Flats Lake in Jefferson County, Colorado. The site was situated on a
currently active, permitted mine site, and was accessed through a locked gate owned by the permittee. As a result, the
CONTRACTOR'S equipment mobilization was coordinated with DRMS and a representative of Lafarge North America (the
current permit holder).
BIDDING/CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION -The project consisted of Garton 3a herbicide application across the forty(40)
acre site, which was populated by Diffuse Knapweed. In addition, forty-five (45) Russian Olive trees/shrubs were cut down,
limbs and other detached plant remnants were stockpiled on site, and the stumps were treated with an appropriate herbicide
to prevent re-growth. This site was reclaimed using the forfeited bond money and State Severance Tax funds.
Type of Bid: Contractor Name: Construction Dates: Bond Amount:
$4,750.00
Purchase Order Quote Mike Delaney—Tres Mesas Start: 11/5/2010
Spraying Project Cost:
End: 6/3/2011 $ 18,517.00
Construction Work Description—This project was been separated into two phases.
PHASE I - RUSSIAN OLIVE SHRUB/TREE CUTTING AND TREATMENT occurred during the fall of 2010. Approximately
forty-five (45) Russian Olive shrubs/trees (between four feet (4') and ten feet (10') in height) within the area(s) designated
and flagged by the DRMS PROJECT MANAGER were cut back to stumps less than one foot (1') in height. CONTRACTOR
left all detached limbs, trunks, and other potential seed sources onsite at the southern-most end of the pit floor. Exact limb
stockpile location was flagged during, the pre-bid meeting. In addition, all Russian Olive shrub/tree stumps were treated with
appropriate herbicide to eliminate any potential for re-growth.
PHASE II HERBICIDE APPLICATION - DIFFUSE KNAPWEED —occurred during June of 2011. Diffuse Knapweed on this
site covers approximately forty (40) acres, as mapped using GPS. CONTRACTOR applied herbicide Garton 3a within the
area(s) designated and flagged by the DRMS PROJECT MANAGER. Sufficient water was held at the base of the clay pit.
This water source was in an easily accessible location (to ATV, pick-up truck, and/or horse) and was authorized for use as
additive for herbicide dilution. Spray tracer or marker dye was mixed in with the herbicide to allow the PROJECT MANAGER
to ascertain the progress of this portion of the project.
Final inspection was performed on June 5, 2011. No brasscap was installed.
Remaining Reclamation Requirements and Estimated Cost- N/A
I'/j0
Pr,*e t .nag= Senior ',fir t Manager
2 7a 13
Date Date
As of 05/14/09
