Colorado Division roject of Reclamation, <br /> Mining & Safety <br /> London Mine Trash & Tree Planting Project <br /> 2015- with Colorado Youth Corps (CYCA ), Environmental Learning <br /> for Kids (ELK) and RMC Consultants, Inc. <br /> Background <br /> The London Mine was reclaimed by the Division of <br /> Reclamation, Mining and Safety in 2013 and 2014. The work <br /> involved reclaiming three tailings piles associated with the <br /> London Mine and consolidating tailings at the London Butte <br /> Mine. Both projects included covering the tailings with on- <br /> site borrow material and incorporating composted biosolids <br /> donated by Freeport McMoRan into the soil. All disturbed 1 <br /> areas were seeded, including wetland vegetation and - . <br /> transplants. A total of 15 adres of disturbed lands at the <br /> London and Butte Mines have been reclaimed to date. <br /> 2015 was a year to conduct maintenance on the site by using ` * •' <br /> RMC Consultants, involving youth groups such as the . Fs i-n- - <br /> Colorado Youth Corps Association (CYCA) and educational <br /> outreach for members of Environmental Learning for Kids ,, Top:Corps member planting <br /> (ELK). A description of the work performed is noted below: trees at the London Butte site. <br /> Approximately 1,500 trees <br /> were planted. <br /> Colorado Youth Corps Association '" <br /> In July 2015, a crew from the Southwest Conservation Corps- Left:A Corps member that <br /> Los Valles (SCC-LV), worked at the London Butte Mine. will earn Americorps tuition <br /> Two crew leaders and 6 corps members between the ages 18 credit to be used for college <br /> or trade school as well as life <br /> and 25 worked on the project for one week. The crew planted long job skills. <br /> approximately 1,500 trees purchased by the Colorado State <br /> Forest Service Nursery, reseeded 0.75 acres of disturbed Bottom: Eight members of <br /> land, removed and stockpiled 594 feet of S-fence and the Southwest Conservation <br /> collected trash/debris over 4.5 acres. The combined hours of Corps with caCorps g membersr for <br /> direct labor performed bycorps members was 336 hours.
