Colorado Inactive Mine Reclamation Program
CLOSEOUT REPORT
ACTIVE MINE BOND FORFEITURE PROJECTS
PERMIT INFORMATION
Permit Number Operator Name Mine Name
M1993-053 GLEN R.TURNER PINNACLE No. 1
Type of Mine-QUARRY Commodity Mined-STONE
PRE-RECLAMATION SITE CONDITIONS
All site grading was previously completed. The site was apparently seeded with no evidence of mulching.
Erosional features along the intermittent stream to the south were evident with sizes verging on gulley. A very
sparse stand of Russian Wildrye,Four-winged saltbush, some slender wheatgrass, and some thickspike wheatgrass
was evident with a dominant thick stand of Russian thistle. DMG Minerals held the bond because of a lack of a
stable perennial vegetative stand.
BIDDING/CONST CTION INFORMATION
Type of Bid- elephone
(Circle One)Formal DIRECT BILL(See attached"quote")
Contractor Name&Address Construction Dates Bond Amount
Reams Construction Start 12/13/2005 $2,758.00
P.O.Box 106 Project Cost
End 12/14/2005 $2,758.00*
Naturita,CO 81422
* Not including BLM additional funding(C0062482—Pinnacle No.1)-$1,000.00
Construction Work Description
Contractor submitted costs of$90/hour for a medium sized excavator initially basing the amount on 10 hours
($900)plus supplying mulch,applying seed,and applying mulch for 1.5 acres($900)for a total"bid"of
$1,800.00. Seed costs($1,216.60)were extremely high due to a doubling of application rates with hand
broadcasting and with the addition of winterfat. Contractor performed excavator work along the southern
boundary along the intermittent stream for slope reduction and divot construction. The entire remaining—1.5 acre
area was hard packed, full of Russian thistle and required seed bed preparation. This work would have been too
time consuming for the excavator so a D7 dozer with multiple ripper shanks was negotiated to be mobilized and
used for the same$90/hour cost. Ripping proceeded with minor complications due to the depth of frost. The
project took a little over 17 hours of machine time to complete. Reams is billing DMG for 17.12 hours
($1,541.40)and billing BLM for the mulching and 1.1 hour of machine time for crimping($1,000).The site is
roughened, seeded(target 60 seeds/sf),and sparsely mulched for revegetation to take hold, the intermittent stream
bank has been stabilized with slope pull back and divoting and the small access road spur to the BLM main road
has been pulled back to approximate original contour. Minor amounts of trash including a disposed refrigerator
were also hauled off to the county landfill.
Remaining Reclamation Requirements and Estimated Cost
NONE—monitor for revegetation success.
