M-1977-424. OOSI has partially completed site reclamation
activities at the Logan Wash Mine. Logan Wash Mine is located approximately 12 miles northeast of De
Beque, Colorado. The main mine portals are located in Section 25, Township 7 South, Range 97 West. A
general site location map for the Logan Wash Mine is presented in Figure 1. Figure 2 shows the main mine
facilities.
This letter contains a thorough description of reclamation history at the mine and concludes with a summary and
formal request to release reclaimed areas(Section 3.0).
1.0 RECLAMATION HISTORY
According to Exhibit E of the Reclamation Plan (1981) for Logan Wash Mine, 134.7 acres were approved for
disturbance within the permit area with an actual disturbance of 113.6 acres. The Evaporation Pond and
associated Retort Water Pipeline were constructed in 1984, but were not added to the mine permit disturbed
area. The associated disturbed acreage from these facilities was added to the permit in 2008 under Amendment
No. 1. See Table 1 for a summary of acreage reclamation status.Reclamation areas are shown in Figures 3A,3B
and 3C.
Table 1 shows the Evaporation Pond and Pipeline acreage as Area 23.Annual reports have shown that since at
least 1985 the Evaporation Pond and Pipeline was initially a 14.8-acre disturbance. The 1985 annual report
shows that approximately 5.1 acres of this acreage was reclaimed prior to the report's published date in spring
1986.Table 1 also shows the disturbed acreage for the Soil Barrow Area that was added in 2005.
Based on this total acreage and reclamation performed, Table 1 shows that the estimated actual disturbed
acreage was approximately 135.2 acres and of this amount, 61.7 acres are not to be reclaimed because Logan
Wash Road is to remain in place for other users and the guard gate area was transferred to Chevron. This results
in an approximate total of 73.5 acres requiring reclamation.
Applications in Earth Science 743 Horizon Court Suite 330,Grand Junction,CO 81506
Phone: (970)242-0170 Fax: (970)242-0270
