COMMUNITY DEVEL PMENT DEPARTMENT
MESA o
COUNTY PLANNING DIVISION
200 S. Spruce Street . PO Box 20,000-5022 . Grand Junction, Colorado . 81502
Telephone: 970.244.1636 . www.mesacounty.us/planning
July 29, 2019
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
RECEIVE®
1313 Sherman St., Room 215 AUG 0 2 2019
Denver, CO 80203
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION
MINING AND SAFETY
Re: Permit M-2019-035
To Whom It Ma rn:
The subject property identified in Permit # M-2019-035 is located in un-incorporated
Mesa County. This site is located at 580 221/2 Road and is owned by Jay Ducray.
It appears that native soil was commercially mined and removed from the site during
March of 2018 by Martinez Western Constructors Inc. Mesa County requires a
Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for Sand and Gravel Excavation in all zone districts. A
CUP application for this use on this property was never submitted or approved. It is
understood that this application to the Division is an after-the-fact permit application and
no more extraction is to occur on this property.
Mesa County encourages the immediate reclamation of this site under the authority of
the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety.
Mesa County reviewed the section of the 22 '/2 Road public right-of-way that provides
access to the mining site. The applicant is responsible for some roadside drainage
improvements on 221/2 Road located in un-incorporated Mesa County and directly
associated with the mining activities.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment.
Sincerely,
Jeff Hofman, Senior Planner
